This relatively unknown make is nevertheless interesting. Borgward, founded by Karl Borgward in Bremen, Germany, was Germany's3rd largest car manufacturer in the 1950s, behind Volkswagen and Opel, thanks to the success of the Isabella model. The Isabella was built not only in Germany, but also in Latin America (Argentina, Mexico) and Asia (Thailand, Indonesia). Unable to renew the Isabella model and as a result of the failure of its new products (Borgward's small 6-cylinder 2L3 Anabella), Borgward went bankrupt in 1961.
The model shown was delivered new in Paris on 13 May 1960 and its original registration was 5245 JY 75. Its1st owner is not known, but the car was sold on 9 August 1963 to Mr Albert Pons, an ice-cream parlour owner at 98 Boulevard des Batignolles in Paris. In September 1995, its current owner acquired it, making it a3rd hand. The car reminded him of his father's 1956 coach.
This Borgward coupé is rare, especially in France. When it was purchased in 1995, it was complete but in poor condition. The mechanics were rebuilt by Paul Mouty in Gravigny (Eure) and the bodywork by the Quentin bodyshop in Saint Ouen l'Aumône, which carried out a complete restoration. A photo file justifies this work. The original upholstery was in fairly good condition, except for the front seats which were redone by Bache 27 in Gravigny, in the original dark beige tone.
We offer a rare Isabella coupé that will enable you to distinguish yourself at rallies or concours d'élégance.
