The BMW M3 took a leap forward in terms of performance and technology with the arrival of the E36 variant in November 1992. The headline improvement came in the form of an extra two cylinders, with the 2,990 cc S50 straight-six replacing the outgoing four-cylinder S14. Power was rated at an impressive 286 PS. By 1995, even greater improvements arrived, with the five-speed transmission replaced with a six-speed unit and the engine getting an increase in displacement to 3,201 cc, along with a useful bump in output to 321 PS.

The example offered here is one of these facelifted cars, built on 18 November 1997.
