Beschreibung
4-litre V8, 286bhp, 295lb/ft, 155mph, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. 5-speed automaticDeep Orient Blue really suits these long sculpted pillarless coupesSuperbly designed cabin finished insumptuous light grey Nappa leatherUsed by Holland Park BMW as a demonstrator when new in 1997Lightly used by its first owner for 16 years and off the road from 2006 until early 2012Comprehensive service history and last serviced in September 2019 at21,503 milesPart of a private collection since 2017. An absolutely fabulous motor carBuilt between 1989 and 1999, the BMW 8-Series was offered with a V8 or V12 engine and whilst commonly thought to be a successor to the 6-Series models it was, in fact, a new series entirely designed to be BMW's 'flagship' and thus command a premium price with looks and performance to match. The 840Ci was produced with two different engines the first of which was a 4-litre V8 M60B40 unit producing 286bhp and fitted from 1993 to late 1995. This was later changed to a new 4.4-litre V8 M60B40 unit which produced the same power output but had significantly better torque. Available with a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox, the only external distinguishing features from the earlier V12 models were the quad round exhausts. As well as stupendous performance - 0-60mph in around 5.8 seconds and an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph - the 8-Series offered the latest in suspension technology, featuring computerised monitoring and adjustment of damper settings, and some rear-wheel steering. Reportedly 3,075 examples of the 4.4-litre V8 BMW 840 Ci had found homes when production finished in May 1999.This superb example is finished in Orient Blue with Light Grey Nappa leather and was initially ordered in 1997 by Holland Park BMW to be used as their dealer demonstrator and naturally was very well optioned. It was most recently serviced in September 2019 with an indicated mileage of only 21,503, probably explained by the fact that its first owner, who kept it for 16 years, was elderly, only using the car occasionally and, in fact, not at all from 2006 until early 2012. Judging by the comprehensive service and invoices for maintenance and improvement, its second owner was particularly fastidious bringing this lovely coupe up to the remarkable condition in which you find it today. Since early 2017 it has been part of a private collection of mouth-watering motor cars cared for by its equally fastidious current keeper.Although out of production for almost 20 years, the 8-Series was blessed with classically proportioned, understated, and essentially timeless styling that has not dated, and these beautiful and exclusive Gran Turismos still look modern today particularly in this sophisticated colour combination and in suchwonderful condition. This factory-fresh example in true collectors condition is possibly unrepeatable.
