The BMW 503 offered for sale here is one of the first vehicles from the first series (136 units) and was delivered by Motag in Switzerland on 27.08.1956. It still has the original colour combination (matching colours), and the engine and chassis have matching numbers.

The coupé was restored some time ago and is accordingly in a well-maintained condition. The engine exhibits throttle response, and the gears can be shifted easily. The paintwork was redone in the course of the restoration at that time. The interior has also been overhauled and is in excellent condition without any damage.

Contrary to the widespread opinion that Albrecht Graf Görtz had developed the design of the 503, it was only slightly revised by him and then completed. The actual development of the 503 can be attributed to Kurt Bredschneider, who had been head of the body department at BMW since the beginning of 1955. However, he could not fully convince his superiors with his design. However, the 503 had to be completed by the IAA in September 1955 and so Albrecht Graf Görtz was given responsibility. This left the basic shape untouched but the taillights and headlights were changed, and additional trim strips were attached.

In total, only 412 units were built between 1956 and 1960, which was largely due to the very high price of 29,500 DM. In December 1957, a facelift was done. The most visible change is the chrome trim strip on the side, which is no longer curved upwards at the rear, technically, among other things, the transmission was flange-mounted directly to the engine and a stick shift was used.
