Beschreibung
Introduced for the 1984 model year, the E30 was BMW’s newest entry into the small executive coupe and sedan class that originated in the 1960s with the 02 series. The E30 offered everything that one could want from a German car in the 1980s – solid build quality, Teutonic styling, and an incredible driving experience.
One of the most underrated models in the E30 range is the 318is, such as the European-specification example offered here. Finished in silver over a desirable gray cloth interior, this 318is has been fitted with BMW 15" alloys and M-Technic 2 body kit, offering a stunning contrast to a standard US-specification car. The 318is remained in static storage under a previous ownership from 1998 to 2015, when it was acquired by Michael Lovell, who replaced the fuel system and other items to return the car to running condition. In an email on file, Mr. Lovell wrote that the odometer gears were broken when he found the car, but believed the mileage to be original. According to its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this BMW was imported from Germany in 1996 and, one year later, showed a mileage reading of 50,000. In 2015, a subsequent entry recorded the mileage as 36,168, so there is a mileage inconsistency listed. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer displayed 45,028 miles.
It is no surprise that the finest examples of the non-M3 E30 series have become sought-after collectibles in their own right, and this 318is should certainly be on that list.
