The 1970s were emblematic for BMW's further history when it came to design. The well-known shark-nose of the models from these years, with its distinctively forward-leaning grille, remained a source of inspiration for BMW's design for decades. And speaking of recognizable designs, we cannot overlook the E21 series, the first 3-series.
At the pinnacle of this series, which starts with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, is the 323i. A fantastic sports sedan with a powerful and smooth 2,315 cc six-cylinder engine under the hood. It boasts 143 horsepower and can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. Quite fast for its time, especially for a car intended as a family vehicle.
The 323i you see here is a particularly original and beautiful example. Delivered in a very typical color for that era, Kashmir metallic. The 323i is the top version of the series and is easily recognizable by the single exhausts on both sides under the rear bumper. Less visible but typical of the 323i are the disc brakes all around. When ordering this 'shark-nose' new, the optional sunroof and five-speed gearbox were also selected.
Clearly, this is a special car, this family sports car, and its condition is exceptionally good as well. The mechanical condition is truly excellent, which is not only noticeable while driving but also supported by a significant number of invoices from an official BMW dealer and specialists. The 323i has been meticulously maintained, resulting in an incredibly smooth driving experience. Sporty, comfortable, exceptionally reliable: this BMW demonstrates what it still is today, a very sporty and high-quality brand. During its time, there was very little in the same segment that could outdo this BMW in more than one aspect.
The E21 is also beautiful in its appearance. In a very well-maintained condition, both in terms of the paintwork and the fit of the body panels. The body has been exceptionally well sprayed, requiring a careful search to notice. The condition is free of scratches, dents, and damages, with only a few minimal imperfections. The BMW sits on very clean 15” alloy wheels, designed similarly to the original wheels but slightly larger. This contributes to the car's enhanced stance on the road and somewhat sportier appearance than the original.
The interior of the BMW is entirely original, in a beautiful condition, with everything just as it should be. During the time when these BMWs became more affordable and appealed to a different audience, elements like the original sports steering wheel and gear lever were often replaced with aftermarket versions. However, this 323i remains completely original. The seats feature the original fabric and are in perfect condition. The seats also offer a very comfortable seating position and adequate lateral support during spirited cornering. An original BMW Bavaria radio provides the music, and the aforementioned and highly appreciated sunroof offers cooling on warmer days. Needless to say, the distinctive dashboard is in top condition, with all gauges and controls functioning perfectly.
The BMW comes with the Dutch manual, a guidebook, the original price list and brochure, and a substantial stack of recent invoices. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a very original and completely unaltered BMW E21 323i.
