Beschreibung

This Austin Mini Moke, nicknamed the “Mini Surfer,” was part of a series of Mokes commissioned by Capitol Records to celebrate The Beach Boys’ four years with the recording label in early 1966. An intended limited run of 850 cc Mokes was to be customized by the legendary Hollywood hot rod builder and “Kustomizer” George Barris with red and white striped paint. A prototype was created and at least five production examples were subsequently built. The Beach Boys were photographed extensively with the Mokes at Barris Kustom Industries and on the beach, as seen in promotional photographs on file. The Mini Surfer Mokes were intended to be given away as prizes to the public through radio station contests throughout the US. This Mini Surfer, won by its first owner in an Ohio radio station’s contest, features nicely patinated, original candy-striped paint, a correctly restored interior complete with a red fur-covered dashboard and seats, and a matching red, fringe-lined removable sunshade. It is also accompanied by a Yamaha Campus 60 motorcycle and a Con surfboard that were included with the Moke when new. This well-documented Mini Surfer is accompanied by numerous newspaper articles covering the launch of the limited-edition customized Mokes. Displaying only 5,900 miles at the time of cataloguing and still featuring its original Barris Kustom decal on the windshield, this period-customized Moke is one of the most original Mini Surfers extant. Never before offered at public auction, this is an exciting opportunity to acquire a genuine Barris Kustom from the 1960s.
