About this Collectable

The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is a masterpiece by Ian Callum, with a beautiful sounding 5.9 liter naturally aspirated V12 under the hood. This example was delivered in the Netherlands, comes from the first owner and has only 20,600 km on the clock. Moreover, this Vanquish shines on the front page of Octane Magazine 058 ( June 2022).

The first generation Vanquish arrived with a bang. Or rather, with a roar. Because what a good sound the 5.9 litre V12 produces. And what a beauty this British Brute remains. Wide powerful hips and a long bonnet form the package for a now iconic GT. It was also the car that launched Aston Martin into a new era.

This first version had an output of 466 bhp and maximum torque of 542 Nm. This enabled the 1,835kg V12 Vanquish to reach a top speed of 306km/h, according to factory specifications.

The Aston Martin brand is now inextricably linked with the V12, but in fact it wasn't that long ago that the brand introduced a twelve-cylinder. That was in 1999. At the time, the illustrious brand had already existed for 86 years.

The first Aston Martin to be fitted with a V12 was the DB7 Vantage, but this Aston Martin V12 Vanquish followed not long after. This made it a direct rival to the Ferrari 550 Maranello.

For the chassis, Aston Martin called in the help of Lotus, who like no other know how to approach such a task. The result is a sophisticated suspension, in which aluminium and carbon fibre have been used. In combination with the limited slip differential, this ensures that the driving characteristics are at an outstanding level.

The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is also an iconic film car, as this was Pierce Brosnan's transport in Die Another Day. The car starred in one of the most memorable James Bond chases, battling a Jaguar XKR on the ice. In the film, the Vanquish could be turned invisible, but why would you? After all, it is one of the most attractive modern coupes, courtesy of master designer Ian Callum.

This jet-black example is not only in superb condition but has also been driven very little. There are only 20,600 kilometres on the odometer. This Vanquish was delivered to the current owner by Aston Martin dealer Kroymans in May 2003 and has been serviced there ever since.

Our opinion

The V12 Vanquish was (and is) one of the most gorgeous Astons ever built. So outstanding, in fact, that designer Ian Callum recently introduced a completely new version based on this model. Everyone can certainly agree on the design (and sound); this is a car that belongs in every collection.

Of course, Jeremy Clarkson enjoyed making fun of the Vanquish's F1 gearbox, but that's just the way they were back then. And to be fair, it actually drives quite well, you just have to get used to it (just like the Ferrari's and M3 CSL from that era). There are software upgrades and Aston Martin even offers conversions to manual gearboxes, but we prefer the model as it was meant to be.

And this 'Dutch delivered first owner V12 Vanquish in top condition' is quite unique. We wouldn't dare say that there are many cars that will increase in value, but it certainly won't depreciate. This is already a classic and the prices are still reasonable for such an iconic, but also fairly exclusive model (only 1,492 were produced). Should fuel engines ever be banned, you'll still have a work of art in your garage.
