Aston Martin launched the V8 Volante on 21 June 1978, in response to the growing demand for a convertible version, particularly from the U.S.-market. As one of Aston Martin's most iconic and enduring models, the Volante remained in production for 11 years, evolving with engineering upgrades while retaining its iconic, muscular character by the renowned engine designed by Tadek Marek. The Volante, as a convertible, exemplified its most captivating form with each example being meticulously hand-built, taking around four months to complete. The most notable changes occurred in 1986, when the model received Weber/Marelli electronic fuel injection, a redesigned, streamlined flat engine bonnet (the bonnet bulge was no longer needed as it was only to clear the cumbersome and antiquated Weber carburetors that had been used prior to the 1986 update) giving the car improved aerodynamics, as well as the addition of optional 16-inch Ronal wheels, rather than the standard 15x7 inch BBS wheels that were used as standard fitment from 1983 to 1989 and when. Only 216 "flat bonnet" Volantes with the Weber/Marelli electronic fuel injection were produced.
Finished in Winchester Blue over a Magnolia leather interior with light blue piping, previous research shows that this car was sold new by Newport Imports of Newport Beach, California, to its first owner, a Mr. Larry R., in California in January 1989. The car was well-equipped with power windows, automatic transmission, and a Dark Blue Everflex power folding convertible soft top. The car remained in California until 2011, when it was sold to a Florida-based enthusiast. The car was then passed on to a collector in Texas in 2014. As presented today, this Volante registers just over 11,000 miles at the time of cataloging. It benefits from desirable upgrades, including a Vantage stainless steel sports exhaust system and sleek Rest of World style chrome bumpers. Now offered for sale for the first time in over 10 years, this splendid Aston Martin remains a charming example of this British powerhouse.
