Only 1,000 since 2008</li><li>Recent investment with Aston Works of £,6500</li><li>Just four former keepers and excellent long-term storage</li><li>Valuable 'Cherished registration'  DBS 66 forms part of the sale</li></ul><p> </p><p>Aston Martin has periodically revived the Lagonda name throughout its history, and the mid-1970s saw it applied to a stretched four door V8 saloon. Debuted at the London Motor Show in 1976, production hit full swing late in 1978 as one car a week rolled off the Newport Pagnell production line.</p><p>The Lagonda was the first production car in the world to use computer management, a digital instrument panel, and second series cathode ray tubes for the instrumentation. It combined striking styling with an opulent, 'members club' leather interior, and with its state-of-the-art dashboard was a veritable spaceship. Coupled to a Chrysler 3-speed "TorqueFlite" automatic transmission, its quad-cam carbureted V8 could provide massive linear thrust when required. The later Series 3 and all Series 4 models were fuel injected.</p><p>William Towns returned to AML briefly to give the Lagonda a 'makeover' in order to get just a few more sales out of the old girl before she was honourably retired, and the resulting Series 4 facelift was revealed in 1987. The lines were softened, the pop-up headlights were ditched, six fixed headlamps replaced the driving lamps, and the waist level trim was lost, but mostly, the sharp angularity had gone. 106 Series 4 cars were built before production ended in 1990 with our Lagonda being the 11th of only 34 that were right-hand drive.</p><p>This striking car was supplied new in 1989 by Reg Vardy Ltd. in Willow Green with dark brown piped magnolia leather. It subsequently moved to Berkshire with its next owner, before going into storage with Stratton Motor Company for 12 years pending the settlement of a divorce case.</p><p>The owner prior to our vendor purchased the car in 2008 and chose to respray it in Aston Martin Mendip Blue with the work carried out by Autotec of Northleach at a cost of £9,000. The brown piping on the Magnolia seating didn't suit the Mendip Blue coachwork so this was replaced with blue by Frank Dale and Stepsons in London.</p><p>Acquired by our vendor in May 2017, it was treated to a visit to Aston Martin Works where it was fully serviced, the fluids changed, rear pads, new battery, and some corrective work on minor issues in exchange for £6,500. The car has only covered 21,000 miles from new with less than 1,000 of those since 2008 and is in the sort of condition that you might expect with that mileage, no expense spared maintenance, and heated storage when not in use.</p><p>Accompanied by the original service booklet, its Car Record Card, Certificate of Ownership, sundry restoration bills and, generously, our vendor is leaving the valuable registration number, 'DBS 66' in place.</p><p>This is a superb example of Aston Martin craftsmanship wrapped in bodywork that even today has a visual presence that few cars can match.</p><p> </p>
