HISTORY
In 2019 Aston Martin built 19 pairs of cars to commemorate the Centenary of Italian coach builder Zagato, and its long collaboration with Aston Martin. A continuation DB4 GT Zagato was produced together with a MY2020 DBS GT Zagato that was based on the most potent series production car at the time, the much acclaimed DBS Superleggera.
The DBS GT Zagato, was given a comprehensive redesign. An unequivocal statement of luxury, exclusivity and purity, DBS GT Zagato delivers a commanding presence and evocative design features often found on Zagato bodied cars. The famous ‘double bubble’ roof has been incorporated, a design element that dates to the beginning of Zagato’s 60 years association with Aston Martin, while it has also been seen on other Zagato designs at Lancia, Ferrari and Maserati to name a few.
The body, made entirely of carbon Fiber, has been bestowed with many unique features both front, roof, sides and rear. The fronts unique “dynamic” grille allows the DBS frontal area to transform its appearance. When stationary, each of the 108 anodized individual diamond-shaped carbon fiber pieces remain closed and flush with the beautifully formed exterior. However, upon start-up DBS GT Zagato will appear to flutter into life, as each piece opens to allow the car’s 760 bhp, 5.2 liter Twin-Turbo V12, to breath. Much of the front, roof and rear showoff exposed Carbon fiber, while the famous double bubble roof is extended and left with no rear screen window but instead incorporates a very useable rear camera system and screen found in the rear view mirror. The rear of the car sports the incredibly stunning rear lights, a tip of the hat to the “cathedral” lights found on the early DB cars, but reimagined for the modern car.
The carbon fiber doesn’t stop on the exterior. The interior has been clothed in carbon fiber and bespoke leather trim. The incorporation of Italian stitching does not stop on the seats but extends to the head lining which shows off the famous ‘Z’ continuously which is found all over the car inside and out. The design elements are tipped towards form over function, in a way only the Italians can achieve with such success. The rear interior is also awash of carbon fiber and beautiful leather. While the Bang & Olufsen sound system does not disappoint.
Where this stunning car was sold initially as a pair, for around $7.8 million dollars, it is believed only 3 such pairs were imported to the United States.
