To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Milan event, 22 May 2025.

  • One of 26 examples of the DBRS9, the Prodrive-developed GT3 variant of the DB9
  • Supplied new to BMS Scuderia Italia, the Aston Martin Works partner team
  • Boasts a successful competition career; contested the FIA European GT3 Championship between 2007 and 2009, plus the 2007 and 2008 Italian GT Championship seasons
  • Single ownership from new—retained by BMS Scuderia Italia

Replacing the DB7 with a new design ethos penned by Ian Callum, the DB9 heralded a new era for Aston Martin. The DB9 represented a massive advancement in technology over its predecessor with features such as an aluminium monocoque, while the Cosworth-developed 5,935-cc V-12 was updated from the Vanquish. Aston Martin finally had a platform from which to build a GT race car that could contend for championship titles.

Following Prodrive’s successful Ferrari 550 GT1 programme, the company partnered with Aston Martin to create Aston Martin Racing. Deploying previous years’ experience, the DBR9 made its debut in 2005 and would ultimately land four GT1 championships and two Le Mans GT1 victories. Sharing the same chassis and body construction as the DBR9, the DBRS9 was developed as a GT3 category racer with lower running costs. Weighing 1,280 kilograms and with 542 horsepower, the DBRS9 proved its potential in its maiden season by taking the 2006 British GT3 Championship crown.

Delivered to Works partner team BMS Scuderia Italia, chassis number DBRS9/18 was one of five examples purchased by the outfit. This car was specified with the desirable six-speed sequential gearbox instead of the standard H-pattern unit. Pressed into service for the 2007 season, chassis 18 notched seven class podiums in the FIA GT3 Championship and Italian GT Championship. Importantly, this DBRS9 contributed to BMS Scuderia Italia’s 3rd place in the FIA GT3 Teams’ Championship and 2nd place in the Italian GT Teams’ Championship.

For 2008, BMS Scuderia Italia was rebranded to Brixia Racing. Chassis 18 competed in all but one round of the FIA GT3 Championship and the Monza round of the Italian GT Championship, scoring three class podiums. In 2009 it contested the first two rounds of the FIA GT3 Championship, snaring two class podiums.

Since its contemporary racing career finished, this DBRS9 has been retained by BMS Scuderia Italia. Eligible for the new GT3 Legends race series, this Aston Martin would make an exciting and competitive entry. One of the best-looking GT3 cars, offered from the single ownership of a Works partner team, this DBRS9 represents an outstanding opportunity.
