Beschreibung
The Aston Martin DB6 was launched at the London Motor Show in 1965, following on from the highly successful DB5, immortalised by the 1964 James Bond film 'Goldfinger'. The front of the DB6 was visually similar to the DB5 but closer inspection revealed quite a different car. The wheelbase was lengthened allowing additional passenger space in the rear along with a raised roof line and a Kamm-tail rear spoiler for improved high-speed stability. The profile of the rear quarter lights echoed those of the DB4 GT Zagato, a styling theme that continued through to the DBS and V8 models until production finished in 1990.
This gorgeous example is finished in the original and rare colour of Ming Blue, punctuated by bright chrome accents and complemented by dark blue Connolly leather trim with a wooden-rimmed steering wheel and neutral-coloured headliner. Sitting on a set of 15-inch chrome wire wheels with triple-eared spinners, the specification of this example includes the rare power-assisted steering, Motorola radio, powered aerial and a stainless-steel exhaust. The paintwork was resprayed in 2022 and is in generally excellent condition but for some small marks near the passenger's door handle and a minor imperfection on the front passenger-side wing which is visible only under close inspection. All areas of the exterior trim have been re-chromed where necessary and as such the car presents extremely well indeed.
Circa 2022, the cabin was retrimmed in Connolly Vaumol leather by Aston Martin specialist Matthew Hill Coach Trimming who also replaced the headlining and carpets in line with the original specification. There is mild wear on the steering wheel, marks inside the glovebox and a little time-earned patina across some of the dials and controls, otherwise the elegant cabin presents in fantastic order.
Included in the history file are two large files of paperwork, the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, V5C registration document, historic tax discs and MoT test certificates. Under the bonnet sits a rebuilt 4.0 litre straight-six, delivering 282bhp and 280lb-ft to the rear wheels through the original and rare five-speed ZF manual transmission. The engine which was rebuilt in 2010 complete with an unleaded cylinder head, was then subsequently compression tested (all even at 140 psi on all six cylinders). A full service was performed in 2016, the carburettors were rebuilt in July 2022 at a cost of £3,466 and in July 2027 our vendor took the car to Aston Engineering in Derby for a factory specification 5,000 mile service which included four new tyres, minor maintenance work and an engine tune which amounted to £6,254. Our vendor states he would jump in this car and drive from his home in Cheshire to Scotland tomorrow, such is his confidence in the car.
The car has always been garaged in an insulated and dehumidified garage by our vendor and by the previous owner, from whom he purchased the car for £261,500 with both owners having this stunning example as part of a larger car collection. This is a wonderfully presented example of the DB6 and the subject of several major mechanical works and recent service as well as a respray and retrim completed to a high standard with a focus on originality. It would be a credit to any collection and is sure to delight as a thoroughly sophisticated weekend cruiser or special event car for any marque enthusiast. Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate this elegant and refined 'gentleman's express'. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
