Beschreibung
A splendid example of one of Newport Pagnell’s finest designs and one of only 351 DB4 Series II
1960 ‘Series II’ Aston Martin DB4
Green with Black leather interior
Presently fitted with performance upgrade Getrag 5-speed gearbox (original box supplied with the car)
A very well maintained example, this stunning Aston Martin has benefitted from thorough, high quality restoration care throughout its life and presents and drives beautifully.
Originally delivered in late 1960 to Mr James Linfield of Worthing via the Brooklands dealer of Bond Street London, factory spec’d in Wedgwood Blue with Grey leather with the factory options of Avon Turbo speed GT Tyres, Twin SU HD8 Carburettors, Dunlop Brakes, Armstrong shock absorbers and a Smiths mph Speedo
Having found its way to Australia, this car featured in the Sotheby’s Auction in Perth (1989) where it was described as having undergone “a most extensive full restoration over the past three years”
Sympathetically maintained by a series of owners who used and enjoyed the car, this DB4 was raced by the then owner at AMOC events (amongst others) during the mid 1990s with the car building something of a local profile featuring in club and enthusiast titles of the era.
The car again underwent a complete bare metal restoration (in Australia) in the late 1990s with the work being carried out to the very highest level with new interior, uprated front rotors, lightweight seats and fuel tank being fitted.
Returning to the UK in 2014, the car has been in continuous single ownership ever since and maintained fastidiously.
Aston Martin DB4
The Aston Martin DB4, unveiled at the 1958 Paris Salon, was state-of-the-art for its time. A unique masterpiece of robust British engineering combined with exquisite Italian styling designed by Touring of Milan and built under license in Newport Pagnell. The sleek body utilised Carrozzeria Touring’s famed Superleggera (super light) structure, a skeleton of small-diameter steel tubing covered by hand-formed aluminium body panels and all round glazed vision. This design enabled the DB4 to achieve a lightweight elegance that was particularly handsome on the DB4s shorter 98-inch wheelbase.
It used the powerful new Tadek Marek designed aluminium twin overhead camshaft 3.7 litre straight-six engine that had been developed for the previous year’s Le Mans entry DBR2, and in the DB4 setting a new sports car lap record at Silverstone. Achieving 240bhp at 5500rpm as advertised, the DB4 with its all new lightweight body achieved speeds of 140mph. To world acclaim, the DB4 was officially tested “to accelerate from 0-100mph and decelerate from 100 mph to rest’ – in an incredible time of just 26.2 seconds.
Testimony to the exclusiveness of the DB4 was its price when new – a staggering £3976, the cost of a substantial house in the Surrey stockbroker belt! Of all post-war Aston Martins, the gracefully sleek DB4 remains one of the most admired and became the iconic blueprint for the DB5 and DB6.
The DB4 developed through no fewer than five series (although it should be made clear that the cars were not thus designated by the factory, this nomenclature having been suggested subsequently by the Aston Martin Owners Club to aid identification as the model evolved) – the second series arrived in January 1960. A front-hinged bonnet, bigger brake calipers and an enlarged sump were the major changes made on the Series II, which, with its large bonnet scoop, early pattern grille and small tail lamps, is visually most pleasing and highly regarded.
Without doubt this is a splendid example of one of Newport Pagnell’s finest designs and one of only 351 DB4 Series II. Currently showing just 23,000 miles this car is available for immediate delivery
