Produced between 1957 and 1959, the Mark III’s evolution from the DB2/4 was most evident in its DBS3-style grille. The engine was also enlarged to 3 litres and capable of 162 horsepower, though that output became 180 horsepower if customers selected the DB/D engine.
This Mark III is one of 47 equipped with the more powerful engine, and was specified with twin exhausts, adding an extra 16 horsepower. Specified in left-hand drive with fully chromed road wheels, the body was finished in Desert White over Red Connolly leather. Chassis AM300/3/1744 was delivered in April 1959 to Établissements J. Vinson in Alger, French Algeria. In 1961, the Aston Martin was shipped to France and sold by the dealer Sonauto to a buyer in Alpes Maritimes in 1962. After 18 years with this owner, the car was acquired by an A. Sauvan in Cannes, who retained the car until 2013, when it joined The Curated Collection.
When acquired by the consigning owner, the car was finished in grey, though it has since been returned to its factory-correct colours. During an engine rebuild by Clark & Carter Restorations, the timing case was replaced. However, the original timing case (stamped DBD/1429) accompanies this car. Beautifully presented in a sporty specification, this Mark III would be a wonderful car to drive or show with pride.
