Successor to the DB2/4 Mark II, the DB2/4 Mark III, or simply DB Mark III as it was referred to even in period, was launched in 1957 and remained in production for just two years, until 1959. The model featured an enlarged inline-six cylinder engine producing 164 horsepower as standard. Options available included Girling disc brakes, a Laycock-de Normanville overdrive, and an automatic transmission. Worm-and-sector steering and a live axle rear were standard, as were twin-SU carburettors. Just 551 DB Mark IIIs were made, of which just 84 are noted to have been Drophead Coupés.
According to its build sheet, this Mark III was delivered new to Paris on 6 June 1958 to Enterprise Andre Laine, seemingly a Champagne producer. Specified in Black over an Off White Connolly leather interior, it was desirably equipped with a manual gearbox and front disc brakes. By the mid-2000s it was owned by Matthias Löhr of Bocholt, Germany before joining the Curated Collection in May 2005.
Today, it is finished in green with a matching green soft-top roof and protective tonneau cover, over a green leather interior with green carpets and door cards, and a contrasting black dashboard with wood-rimmed steering wheel. The car is accompanied by its tool kit, a copy of its Aston Martin build sheet, registration documents, various pieces of correspondence from current ownership, and its FIVA identification card.
This extremely rare left-hand-drive Mark III Drophead would make a wonderful addition to any classic collection, and will create interest among enthusiasts and marque collectors.
