Beschreibung

  • A true icon of French motorsport
  • One of 435 Alpine-Renault A110 1300 Berlinettes built in 1974
  • Uprated 168-horsepower 2-litre engine allied to a straight-cut “Monte Carlo” gearbox, Group 4 brakes, and enhanced driveshafts
  • Accompanied by assorted spares, a selection of magazines, and a rolling road readout

At the age of just 25, Jean Rédélé wasn’t just Renault’s youngest ever concessionaire, he was also a gifted engineer with a passion for motorsport. Utilising tried-and-tested Renault running gear, the talented Rédélé created his own series of agile and lightweight sports cars.

His vision reached its full potential when the beautiful glassfibre bodywork of the A108 was married to a single-tube backbone chassis and the running gear from the Renault R8 saloon to create the A110. The gradual evolution of the model between 1963 and 1977 resulted in the A110 dominating the world of rallying, winning outright the 1973 World Rally Championship.

Hailing from the latter part of the A110’s development, chassis “15071” was built as a V85 1300 VC model, and left Alpine’s Dieppe works in 1974. The car is believed to have been delivered new to Germany, and in February 1986 was registered in Berlin. The car passed through the hands of a further three German owners before being imported to Sweden in November 2011, and by May 2013 had been registered by the consigning owner.

Since modified for use in competition, the A110 now features a 1.6-litre Alpine-Renault four-cylinder engine built to 1,988-cc specification and producing 168 horsepower, mated to a five-speed straight-cut Type 364 “Monte Carlo” gearbox. An accompanying document from Schäfer Tuning of Nohn, Germany, which carried out the work, also details uprated driveshafts, “Group 4” front brakes with larger rear callipers, and Koni dampers, in addition to bucket seats and Cibie foglamps.

A purposeful example bristling with costly upgrades, this icon of French motorsport wants for nothing more than a driver who can match its huge potential. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23.
