Beschreibung
First conceived as the ES30 design study in 1987, the Sprint Zagato (styled by Alfa Romeo Design and Robert Opron, but built at Zagato) caused quite a sensation. Dubbed 'il Mostro' or 'the Monster', this was no conventionally good-looking Alfa Romeo coupe. But such was the overwhelmingly positive reaction to it, that in 1989, Alfa launched a production version at the Geneva Motor Show. Sensibly, it was based on a heavily modified 75 V6 platform, so the SZ had the performance (and sound) to back up its sporty yet unconventional looks. Its ability to hang on in bends really made the SZ special – it was said to be able to generate 1.1g of lateral load. Like most of the Zagato Alfa's, the SZ had a near perfect 50:50 weight balance. Total production of the SZ reached 1036 units, which makes it quite a rare car.
This example is probably the closest you can come to a brand new car, as it only has 2.450 km on the clocks. It was delivered new in 1990 to an Alfa Romeo dealership in Rome, and carries SZ serial number 93. The car has been used as eyecatcher in the showroom for many years, and is still in new condition. It comes with all documentation, packed in nicely stitched leather folders. The factory delivered car cover is still with the car, as well as the original leather stitched carrying bag for a punctured wheel. Everything inside and outside looks as it just left the Zagato factory with paint, leather and carpets all in extremely nice condition. The car comes with Italian registration documents, and some very rare brochures and manuals (in fact the complete delivery package + some special publications) are included as well.
The SZ is one of the most collectable Alfa Romeo's, due to its rarity, extreme looks and Zagato pedigree. It is still a rather affordable handbuilt sportscar, and finding one in this untouched and new condition will be very difficult to repeat. If you fancy one the best examples of this iconic nineties sportscar, then a visit to our showroom should be your next step.
