During the 1960s, Alfa Romeo produced its most successful production racer, the Giulietta Sprint Zagato, or SZ. This lightweight coupe was unbeatable in its class and contributed significantly to the sporting reputation of both Zagato and Alfa Romeo. Thirty years later Alfa Romeo was to show a new sports car on its stand at the Geneva Motor Show which evoked memories of that earlier SZ. Again styled by Zagato, it was the company‘s first new model to revive the magic SZ initials for its name, although in-house the project was code named ES30, alluding to the ultra-slippery drag-coefficient of 0.3 CD.
