Beschreibung
Penned by Marcello Gandini for Bertone, the Alfa Romeo "Montreal" was first showcased as a concept car at the Expo 67 World's Fair in Montreal, reflecting Gandini's innovative design approach following his work on the Miura for Lamborghini. The production model debuted three years later at the 1970 Geneva Auto Salon, retaining much of the striking design of the concept but featuring a significant mechanical upgrade: it replaced the Giulia's four-cylinder engine with a high-revving quad-cam V8 derived from the 2.0-liter Tipo 33 Stradale.
This 1973 example was ordered new in Luci del Bosco Metallizzato (Metallic Forest Lights) with an Avana Beige interior. Following completion, the car was destined for the German market, being sold to its first owner in Icking, Germany, on 28 May 1974, as noted on its original Fahrzeugbrief. The car then exchanged hands a few more times before being acquired by Dieter Fiest on 22 February 1979. During Dieter's ownership, he kept handwritten notes accounting for the service work completed, with several pages of his log accompanying the car. Rust repair was carried out. and the bodywork was refinished in its factory-delivered color in 2004. After approximately 30 years with the car, Dieter sold his Alfa Romeo in around 2010. Leaving Germany for the first time since new, the car was purchased by the current owner, with registration in Luxembourg in 2018. After purchasing the car, the current owner spent over 4,600€ on service work in 2020, which included a technical inspection, brake system checks, a new exhaust system, renewing suspension bushings, performing an alignment, and other minor repairs. Complete with its original Fahrzeugbrief and service documents, this 1973 Alfa Romeo Montreal is a wonderful opportunity to experience a rarely-seen Bertone-styled car with race-derived heritage.
