Launched in 1963, the Bertone coupé was designed by the then 22 year-old Giugiaro. This model comes with the twin-cam engine designed in 1954 for the 1290cc Giulietta engine.
The engine’s capacity was pushed up to 1962cc for the Giulia GT 200 Veloce - made between 1971 and 1976 - and its main features represented such a technological advance in the mid-50s that they remained unchanged for the next four decades: aluminium block, sodium-cooled exhaust valves, a nitrate-hardened crankshaft - in other words a new process which afforded the engine super durability...
