One of the most elegant coupés of the 1960s Designed by Bertone
The Alfa Romeo 2600, with its six cylinders, was the top of the range model of the brand from 1962 to 1968 but above all the last model with a very beautiful in-line 6-cylinder engine with double overhead cams. This tradition had started in the late 1920s with the 6c1500 and 6c1750 and ended after the war with the abandonment of the 6c2500 model for the development of the more economical 4-cylinder mass production. The range included a saloon version, the Zagato Super Sport coupé, the Touring cabriolet and the Bertone Sprint coupé. It was this last version, designed by the young Giugiaro, that was the most successful. The heart of the car, its centrepiece, was of course the new 6-cylinder, 2-cylinder, light-alloy engine. However, the high price tag led to limited success despite the great qualities of the model. The overall design of the Sprint coupé already foreshadowed what was to become one of the brand's most popular models, the "Bertone coupé". Spacious and comfortable, luxurious and sporty, the 2600 Sprint was the most widely distributed model, including a special right-hand drive version for specific markets. A large coupé, it easily accommodates
it easily accommodates four passengers. By abandoning this model in 1968 Alfa Romeo left the top of the range for a long time. The model we are presenting was delivered new in France in 1967. In the hands of an enthusiast of the brand for several years, the car has been meticulously maintained and kept in a very nice condition. The engine has been fully restored as well as the gearbox. All the car's alignments have been revised. The bodywork and paintwork have been professionally carried out and the car is now presented in its original colour. The beige leather interior, in very good condition, matches perfectly with the prominent red of the bodywork.
A test drive in the car allowed us to confirm that the twin-shaft in-line six-cylinder engine (the last one for an Alfa Romeo touring car) is working well.
With its streamlined Bertone body, purring engine and cabin capable of accommodating four adults, this Alfa Romeo 2600 is the perfect embodiment of Grand Touring, ready to swallow long distances."
