In 1998, MZ first entered at the Paris-Dakar Rally, on the initiative of the French importer. The four machines that made the start were merely modified production motorcycles (additional engine protection, larger fuel tank, etc) and not the exotic prototypes fielded by many of their rivals. Two of the four machines that started saw the finish line, taking 36th and 53rd places in the motorcycle classification. Although they were well off the leader board, this has to be seen as a successful outcome for such a 'low budget' operation. The machine offered here is the one that finished in 36th place ridden by the French rider François Deboffe.

This bike has been on static display since a number of years and is in need of recommissioning.
