Limited edition of 155
In 2000, Ducati announced two limited edition versions of its 998 S superbike: the Bayliss and the Bostrom, the newcomers taking their names from Ducati's factory riders contesting the World Superbike Championship: the Australian Troy Bayliss and the American Ben Bostrom. AMA Superbike Champion in 1998, Bostrom was riding a Ducati in that series the following year when, as a wild-card entry, he won one race at the Laguna Seca round of the World Superbike Championship and finished second in the other, bringing himself to the attention of the Ducati management in Bologna. Bostrom was a factory rider in WSBK for three years (2000-2002 inclusive) with 2001 his best season, netting him 3rd place overall in the championship.
Finished in the distinctive livery of the American's sponsors, L&M, the Bostrom was built in three batches of 155 machines each: one for the USA, one for Europe, and another for the rest of the world, the latter two batches benefiting from the 136bhp Testastretta engine (US bikes had to make do with 'only' 123 horsepower).
The Bostrom offered here is number '013' of the 155 built for 'rest of the world' markets. The machine has recorded 32,758 kilometres and is presented in generally excellent condition. Accompanying documentation consists of Japanese registration papers and an EU document confirming import taxes paid. An original Bostrom paddock stand and motorcycle cover, complete with bag, are included in the sale.
