1973 BMW R90S
Frame no. 4070671
Engine no. 4070671
With the introduction of the '/6' range in 1973, BMW joined the superbike league with a pair of 900cc flat-twins. The touring version was typed 'R90/6' and the gorgeous new sportster 'R90S'. With its twin front disc brakes, racing-style seat, megaphone-shaped silencers and cockpit fairing, the R90S looked like no BMW before it, and the air-brushed 'smoke' custom finish to tank, seat and fairing meant that no two examples left the factory exactly alike. With 67bhp on tap, the R90S was good for a maximum speed of more than 200 km/h.
This stunning matching-numbers example of BMW's flagship R90S was delivered new to Europe as one of the very first examples and is presented in outstanding condition following restoration to the highest standards and with the utmost attention to detail. Being a desirable early example, produced in November 1973, this bike features the full disc brakes and aluminium indicators. The current odometer reading of 3,800 kilometres is the distance covered since the restoration. In May 2021 (at 3,300 kilometres since restoration) the BMW was serviced by the BMW dealer Meeuwsen at a cost of 9,194 (invoice on file). A real collectors' item, the machine is offered with its old NL registration document; current Belgian registration document; and a valuation report valuing it at 30,000 in view of its exceptional condition.
