Beschreibung

Introduced in 1956, the R60 was a rugged, high-quality machine that furthered BMW’s reputation for building the world’s finest touring motorcycles – bikes that could be ridden long distances while offering unmatched reliability and comfort. Famously featured in the 1974 book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the R60 has since earned a cult following among riders and collectors. Featuring a robust duplex tubular steel frame, 600 cc air-cooled horizontally opposed twin engine, and shaft drive, the R60 was improved for 1960, resulting in a new /2 designation.

This relatively late-production R60/2 was the recipient of a high-quality restoration and presents beautifully today finished in traditional Avus Black with white pinstriping. Equipped with a period-correct Steiger seat and offered with a tool roll, this BMW retains its matching-numbers engine per its original data tag. The consignor reports that the R60/2 has recently been serviced, including attention to its brakes and suspension, and appears to be an ideal candidate for weekend outings or the occasional show. Beloved by enthusiasts and benefiting from tremendous club support, these iconic R60/2s are an ideal entry into the world of vintage BMW motorcycles.
