Description

1958 ASTON MARTIN DB Mk III DHC (Drop Head Coupe)

Ordered by and delivered to Guy Salmon Automobiles of Thames Ditton in May 1958, optional equipment specified, included front Disc Brakes and 4 speed Overdrive gearbox. Specified in I.C.I. Elusive Blue paintwork with Off White Connolly hide interior, as the car is presented in today. The original grey woven fabric hood was upgraded to more durable dark blue vinyl hood during restoration.

Elusive by name and elusive by nature, just 84 DB MkIII Drophead coupes were manufactured, from a total run of over 500 DB MkIII’s including Saloon and Fixedhead coupe model variants, produced over a two-year period. This beautiful example, ‘body off’ restored by leading Aston Martin specialists, to concours condition, between 2011 and 2013, is in outstanding condition today, having covered nominal mileage since the restorations completion and having been stored, in climate-controlled conditions, when not in use.

Restored to its original specifications, the engine was rebuilt with the coveted optional DBD engine specifications, of triple SU carburettor configuration with forged alloy pistons and a balanced set of Carrillo connecting rods fitted. A potent and durable combination, which, when combined with the Overdrive transmission, provides the ultimate DB MkIII driving experience.

The first Aston Martin model to pioneer the elegant and now familiar, ‘Open Face’, front grille design and instrument panel echoing the new grille shape, the DB MkIII was the last model built on the lightweight Claude Hill designed chassis, powered by a 3 litre 6-cylinder engine heavily revised by renowned engine designed Tadek Marek whilst the then new DB4 model entered production,

This rare and exceptional car, surely one of the finest examples of the model in existence is now ready to be enjoyed at organised events, that tour you have always promised yourself or the world’s finest concours lawns, this motoring season.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
