- Rare opportunity in Switzerland

Crafted in a limited series of just 260 cars (Coil Spring), the Cobra 427 stands as the quintessential «Supercar» of the Swinging Sixties. Initially conceptualized in 1953 as the AC Ace and AC Bristol, the chassis underwent further refinement under the expertise of Carroll Shelby, the Texan triumph of Le Mans 1959. Above all, it received a potent V8 engine from Ford. The Cobra traversed various developmental phases, reaching its pinnacle in the formidable and breathtakingly swift 427 series. This iteration packed a colossal 7-liter V8 into a relatively compact and lightweight coil spring chassis.
Prepare to be captivated by its outstanding performance ! Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a less 4.7 seconds, the Cobra relentlessly reaches speeds over 240 km/h. It covers the quarter mile in an astonishing 12.9 seconds, solidifying its status as the fastest accelerating car available to the general public well into the eighties. With a scarcity in production numbers, the Cobra 427 has evolved into an icon in the annals of sports cars and stands as a highly coveted collector’s item, with the majority of these gems nestled in private collections.

The showcased example rolled off the assembly line destined for a member of the General Motors management (loyalty knows no bounds...). In 1971, it
made its way to England under the care of Hexagon Motors. Shortly after its arrival, the car embarked on a memorable road test for «Autocar» magazine,
leaving the testers awe-struck by its unmatched speed. Remaining in England until 1996, it became a cherished piece in esteemed collections, including
those of John Cooper, George Goddard, Ed Hubbard, and Kevin Pilling, before finding a new home in a private Swiss collection.
The AC Shelby Cobra 427, rightly hailed as one of the timeless classics in the world of sports cars, holds a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts for its muscular prowess and fire-breathing performance. Conceived by Texan racing legend Carroll Shelby, the Cobra emerged from the realization that combining a lightweight American V8 engine with a proven European chassis could result in a winning formula. Shelby’s vision materialized in the form of the Cobra, which saw a Ford V8 engine installed in the chassis of an AC Ace. The first prototype with a 260ci (4.2-liter) engine hit the road in January 1962, and production began later that year. The 289ci (4.7-liter) powerhouse became the standard in 1963, and the iconic Cobra MkIII chassis was introduced in 1965, accommodating Ford’s formidable 427ci (7-liter) V8 engine.
The Cobra MkIII, with its wider bodywork, extended wheelarch flares, and a bigger radiator intake, set new standards in both performance and aesthetics.
Notably, the ‘S/C’ (semi-competition or ‘street’ competition) versions, powered by the mighty 427, further solidified the Cobra’s legendary status.
Today, this Cobra stands as an authentic and low-mileage exemplar, impeccable in every detail, housing its original 427 cubic inch side oiler engine. Meticulously maintained by one of Switzerland’s premier Shelby car specialists, the current condition of this Cobra is nothing short of excellent in every respect. Own a piece of automotive history, where performance and provenance converge seamlessly.
