Description
MUSICAL AND REPEATING GOLD POCKET WATCH
Attributed to Piguet et Meylan, Geneva, No. 1898. Made circa 1820.
Very fine and rare, 18K gold, quarter-repeating, musical pocket
watch with music playing on the hour or at will. Accompanied by a
mahogany later fitted box.
Four-body, "Empire", master mark `AP`, engine-turned with
polished rims, bolt at 10 to activate the music. Hinged gilt brass
cuvette with apertures for winding and hand-setting.
Gold, engine-turned with radial Roman numerals, outer minute
divisions, engine-turned center. Blued steel Breguet hands.
46 mm.(20```), gilt brass two-train, with standing barrel for
the going train, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm balance, flat
balance spring, polished steel endplate, index regulator, repeating
on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Sur plateau musical
movement, 28 tuned, blued steel vibrating blades acting on both
sides of the pinned disc, music/silence lever at the edge of the
cuvette beneath the back cover.
Dial plate punched numbered 1898, case numbered 1898.
