Description
This Wraith, chassis no. WZB29, left the works on the 12th December 1947 in order to receive its coachwork from Park Ward. On the 17th of June 1948 this impressive saloon was delivered to its first owner Baron Louis-Marie-Charles-Adolphe Vanderheiden. On the 15th July he had the Rolls Royce shipped through SS Autocarrier to Franco Britannic Autos Ltd in Paris. On 26 July 1949 the agent finally issued the ownership certificate. After the demise of the Baron on the 21st February 1952, the car was sold to Emery Reves who imported the Rolls-Royce into Switzerland on the 16th December 1954 and arranged for the registration GE 50941 on the 25th May 1955. In 1954 the Hungarian writer, editor and literary agent, acquired the villa La Pausa in Rocquebrune in the South of France, formerly owned by Coco Chanel. He frequently invited his friend Winston Churchill to spend his vacation at the house. Amongst other guests Konrad Adenauer, Greta Garbo, Aristoteles Onassis, Rainier and Gracia from Monaco or the Duke of Windsor were frequently seen at La Pausa where WZB29 provided a most fitting means of transport. After Emery’s death his widow Wendy decided to keep the Rolls-Royce and to have it parked in the garage of the chalet l’Hermitage above Montreux. In October 1980 the number plates were deposited and the car de-registered. In 2014 a real estate agent, Michel Colatruglio, was commissioned with selling the chalet. That’s where the covered-up Silver Wraith was finally re-discovered. After the sale of the chalet, he was able to acquire the car and had it extensively restored over the following years. The coachwork was repainted, all the mechanical bits were checked and revised as necessary and the interior was refreshed. Maintaining the highest possible level of originality was a prime consideration in order not to destroy the important history of the Rolls-Royce. Now the extensively documented WZB29 is in very good condition, Veteran MOT’d in 2018 and is ready to be enjoyed for many more exclusive outings by its next keeper.
