Description
"The DAF Marathon 66 was produced by the Dutch car manufacturer, DAF, from 1972 to 1976. The DAF Marathon was designed by the legendary car designer Giovanni Michelotti. The DAF Marathon 66 was powered by either a reworked 1108cc, or 1289cc Renault engine. The DAF Marathon was praised for its excellent handling and roadholding. It featured an independent suspension system with MacPherson struts up front and a semi-trailing arm setup at the rear. This setup provided excellent cornering stability and a smooth ride. The car also featured a power-assisted steering system that provided good feedback and accurate steering. The DAF Marathon was well-received by enthusiasts and the press alike. It was praised for its interior, excellent handling, and powerful engine. It is a comfortable and stylish car that is still popular with collectors today.
This rare DAF Marathon was purchased by a Mr. Binns of Bournemouth from Four Square Garage Ltd in 1974. The original order form shows that he paid the princely sum of £1,590.44 for the DAF. He retained the car for the next 20 years until he passed away in 1994. It was Mr. Binns’ wish for the car to be put on view at the Christchurch Motor Museum. It stayed with them until the museum was shut. This charming coupé was recommissioned in 2013 and has been owned by our vendor since then. Presented to auction with a history file containing the original order form, service book, sales brochures, past MoT test certificates and various service receipts. This wonderfully original example from the 1970’s would be a funky addition to any collection.
Interested parties should note that the brakes on this car will require some attention before this car can be driven.
