The 1997 event was the Dakar Rally's 19th edition. The rally began and ended in Dakar, with a loop through Niger and the Ténéré desert. This KTM 620 Rally finished 10th in that event, entered by E. Leclerc and ridden by Eric Bernard. KTM had yet to establish its stranglehold on the Dakar's motorcycle class (Yamaha's YZE 850T dominated the 1990s with seven wins) - although three second places for the Austrian manufacturer before the decade's end was an indication of what was to come.
This bike has been on static display for a number of years and is in need of recommissioning.
