"Works-entered RC600Rs dominated the 1991 and 1992 600cc-class of the Paris-Dakar, making it one of the truly great machines in the history of the event..." - Mick Walker, Gilera The Complete Story.
Designed by engineer Lucio Masut, and introduced in 1989, the Gilera RC600 was powered by a 558cc water-cooled four-valve single-cylinder engine featuring belt-driven overhead camshafts, which produced 48bhp and was housed in a single-cradle frame. The machine offered here was ridden by Luigi Medardo (number '27') on the 12th Paris-Dakar in 1990 it is believed. At the 1991 Paris-Dakar, riders Luigi Medardo and Roberto Mandelli finished 7th and 9th overall respectively.
