Description
Introduced in 1948 in the footsteps of the American Jeep, the Land Rover has become an integral part of British postwar history. Built amid postwar steel shortages, early Land Rover bodies were constructed using aluminum alloy, which made them both lightweight and impervious to rust. A decade later, a more advanced and restyled Series II was introduced, followed three years later by the Series IIA, with a revised, steel, box-type ladder frame. Available in either an 88" or 109" wheelbase, both models were sold either as an open utility vehicle with a soft top or as a station wagon variant, which featured two rows of inward-facing rear jump seats and an insulating roof panel with Alpine light windows.
Finished in Marine Blue with a white top, this 109 Series IIA Station Wagon was frame-up restored by Land Rover specialists Himalaya at their Charleston, South Carolina facility at a cost of $227,000 and completed in 2018. The Land Rover features the firm’s signature modern upgrades, all while retaining an essentially stock external appearance. The truck is fitted with a Chevrolet LS3 crate engine, six-speed automatic transmission, custom coil-spring chassis, Hydroboost disc brakes, air-conditioning, and a fantastic bespoke interior, among many other upgrades. For collectors seeking a Land Rover that retains its iconic vintage look but drives like a much more modern vehicle, this sensational Series IIA is a perfect choice.
