Description

Chassis No. 1FAFP90S26Y401299

As one of the most audacious actions undertaken by a major American automaker in recent memory, Ford's bold re-introduction of the famed GT40 concept in the early 2000s would result in a fully modern supercar, meticulously designed and engineered to serve as "The Pace Car for an Entire Company." Now known as the Ford GT, this new supercar remained extraordinarily faithful to the external design of the original four-time consecutive Le Mans-winning titan. It was one of the rare moments when, rather than compromising, an automaker gave the public exactly what it wanted - a no-excuses performance machine built to thrill on both the road and track.

In keeping with that spirit, for 2006, Ford enhanced its 550-horsepower, V8-powered, world-beating GT available with the new and highly desirable Heritage Paint Livery package. Internally known as production code "GL PO," this $13,000 package clothed the GT in Heritage Blue and Heritage Orange paint, the memorable colors used by the John Wyer Automotive/Gulf Oil-sponsored GT40s, which were victorious at Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. White roundels were also applied to the GT's flanks, hood, and decklid. The result was a timeless tribute to the original Le Mans-winning GT40, creating both the visual and tactile presence of a vintage Le Mans winner on the street.

Offered exclusively for the GT's second and final year of production, the Heritage Edition liveried cars were a one-year exclusive option, significantly limiting its production numbers to a highly collectible 343 examples. Upon its introduction, the Heritage GT became the one to own and it has remained the most sought-after variant ever since, with examples remaining continuously desirable, particularly since the introduction of the second-generation Ford GT.

Sold new through Steve Baldo Ford in Niagara Falls, New York, this 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition features all four available options with grey-painted brake calipers, lightweight BBS forged aluminum wheels, and a McIntosh Audiophile System in addition to the Heritage Paint Livery. Typical optional items on lesser cars like carbon fiber bucket seats, Brembo brakes, and a Helical limited-slip differential were standard on the Ford GT.

Remarkably well preserved from new, this delivery mileage example was purchased in 2013 by the late Mr. John Hartford, a renowned Jacksonville-based collector of Ford performance cars, and is now offered on behalf of his estate with just 6.8 miles at the time of cataloging. One of the most highly original Heritage Edition GTs extant, this GT retains its factory delivery hang tags, windshield inspection stickers, protective seat covers, and both the blue and white protective film on the door sills. Accompanied by the original tire inflator, this GT also includes two vehicle keys, an un-mounted front license plate bracket, owner's manuals, battery trickle charger, and the factory car cover. Several of these items remain unopened in the factory plastic. Truly an as-new example, all four Goodyear Eagle F1 tires display a 2006 date code indicating they are likely original to this car, in addition to a racing decal kit.

As one of the most highly sought-after and collectible modern supercars, this four option, Heritage Edition GT displaying remarkably low delivery-mileage ticks all the boxes and presents a near unrepeatable opportunity for collectors to acquire one of the all-time great supercars of its era.
