Description

"The MG Metro was introduced in October 1982 some six months after the launch of the MG Metro 1300. The MG Metro Turbo was a leader for its day with the Lotus Engineering assisted design for the very comprehensive changes that were done to the engine which was very capable of handling the modest 93 bhp the standard engine was quoted at, although many actually delivered closer to 100 in standard unmodified form. Later tuned race cars would push that power to 200bhp, a massive power level for that period and even more so for a 1300cc engine. Other positive features included powerful servo assisted brakes using four-pot calipers and ventilated discs up front. The Turbo also came with a bodykit that provided a front spoiler and four-wheel spats to go with the MG Metro rear spoiler and this together with the use of Turbo only specific larger 13” alloy wheels and low profile tyres the individual look was enhanced considerably. One of the pocket rockets of its day, only 22,000 were made and survivors very rarely come to market now.
First registered on 21st March 1984, the MG Metro Turbo offered here is nothing short of incredible. The car is completely original having been lovingly cared for by its first owner for the first 30 years of its life. Mr. Lamont purchased the car new from Lex Mead of Bexleyheath, Kent for the sum of £5,500. The car was used lightly for the first five years when a mere 6,532 miles were put on it. The car was then taken off the road by Mr. Lamont and stored in the garage at his new home until July 1999 when it was displayed at the Guildford MG show. Whilst stored the car had been regularly started to maintain it. Winning its class in concours events in both 2001 and 2002, Mr. Lamont felt he had made his point that his car was truly exceptional. In the years since it has covered few miles, but always maintained in perfect running order. Amazingly, all the documentation remains with the car from the original V5 logbook, to its original purchase invoice book pack and manuals. Along with the prizes won there are many receipts and relevant period publications. The car is so original that other than a light refurbishment to the seat covers in 2012 and a total brake overhaul in 2013, the car is totally original. It sits on a set of original wheels with modern tyres, but the original wheels that came with the car from new and their original tyres are also included. Having resided since 2019 as part of a large collection, the vendor has decided to move the car on to free up both space and funds for a new project. He reports the car to run and drive very well and is a time warp example, impossible to replicate.
Supplied with a V5C registration document, original invoice, book pack, maintenance and service handbooks, many MoT test certificates, invoices, photo CD and publications. This presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a three owner, full history from new, perfect condition example.
