Among the most sought-after variants of the 964-generation Porsche 911, the Carrera RS was produced only for the 1992 model year. Essentially a road-legal version of the contemporary Carrera Cup race car, it is nearly 140 kilograms lighter than a standard type 964 Carrera Coupé with thinner side glass, an aluminium bonnet, a smaller battery, a simpler wiring loom, lightweight door cards, minimal carpeting, and magnesium alloy wheels. Insulation, soundproofing, and power accessories, including power steering, were also removed; the stereo was optional.
Its 3.6-litre naturally aspirated M64/03 flat-six is more potent than the standard Carrera’s engine and drives the rear wheels through a racing clutch with a single-mass flywheel connected to a five-speed manual transmission with ZF asymmetric limited-slip differential. To improve handling, the suspension was lowered and stiffened. All these changes combined to create one of the most unfiltered and exhilarating driving experiences in its day. Only 1,992 basic and touring variants were produced, with the latter featuring more creature comforts.
The Porsche 911 Carrera RS offered here has a production date of 12 June 1992 and was delivered new to Switzerland. It was finished by the factory in Black and features correct bucket seats finished in black leather with grey leather inserts. A roll cage has been installed and painted red, matching the seatbacks and drilled pedals. The car rides on Speedline-style, five-spoke wheels and, importantly, still carries its matching-numbers engine.
The accompanying Porsche books list three previous owners. Numerous stamps in the service book indicate that the car was routinely serviced at Porsche dealerships, first at Garage Olympic S.A./Porsche Centre Sierre in Switzerland and later at Porsche Centre Lausanne. The accompanying warranty book further verifies its mileage, with the odometer showing 86,938 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
Now offered with its warranty book and appearing to be in well-preserved condition, this rare and highly coveted Porsche 911 Carrera RS, replete with matching-numbers engine, is an excellent find for the serious Porsche enthusiast seeking to augment a collection or experience one of the marque’s most finely honed machines from behind the wheel on racing circuits.
