Description
Packard’s 17th Series continued to offer customers a wide range of choices of body styles and engine types, resulting in the availability of the perfect Packard for nearly every buyer. The nine main bearing 130 hp Super Eight was the top-of-the-line offering on the 127" wheelbase, and the $2,156 Convertible Sedan, such as the car offered here, was among Packard’s most expensive factory-bodied eight-cylinder models in 1939.
Mark Smith purchased this Packard circa 2012, and it is noted in a letter on file that the car had been in storage since 1970 – a statement supported by a Pennsylvania registration sticker from that year which remains affixed to the windshield. Further correspondence documents over $10,000 of work that Mr. Smith had performed by Davidsen’s Auto Interior to sympathetically restore parts of the Super Eight’s leather interior and install a new canvas top. Petter Davidsen and his crew took care to ensure that the results complemented the intact, unrestored components of the interior, and hundreds of hours are recorded within the invoices and letters on hand.
Described by Mr. Smith in the car’s file as a “dead straight and nice original car,” this Super Eight 1703 Convertible Sedan deserves to be returned to the road by its next owner, where its Classic Era Packard quality can be fully appreciated.
*Please note that this Lot, like all vehicles in this Auction, has been in long-term static storage and may not be currently operational. It will require mechanical attention prior to any road use.
