Description

  • Part of The Black On Black Collection
  • A desirable ‘Monospecchio’ variant with trademark single mirror
  • Retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine and gearbox, according to factory data
  • Finished in Nero over a Nero leather interior

Conceived to replace Ferrari’s 512 BB, the Testarossa broke cover at the 1984 Paris Motor Show. A striking departure from the seductive curves of its predecessor, the new flat-12-powered flagship supercar featured more angular styling with trademark slatted cooling vents and an aggressive wedge shape.

Perfectly suited to the era of excess, the Testarossa became an instant hit for its wild design and headline performance, and it would go on to become one of Maranello’s best-selling models by the time production of the F512 M variant drew to a close in 1996.

The earliest examples of Ferrari’s flagship model can be identified by their single A-pillar-mounted driver’s mirror, earning it the ‘Monospecchio’ moniker. Chassis 63349 is one such example, built in March 1986, finished in Nero over Nero leather and destined for the US market, where it was first registered on 1 July 1986. Records indicate that the car was first serviced via Symbolic Ferrari of La Jolla, California, and remained in the US until at least 1998.

This remarkable first-generation Testarossa received replacement timing belts in October 2019, prior to becoming part of The Black On Black Collection in December 2020. It is offered with its owner’s manual and service book, fitted luggage, and toolkit. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/ve23.
