The 308 is considered by many to be one of Ferrari's greatest production and styling triumphs. The original 308 GTB, released in 1975, was the first production Ferrari with a fibreglass body, bar the aluminium hood. The 308 GTB is the direct successor to the Dino 246 GT, and enthusiasts of that model praise the air intakes, double rear lights, and hollow rear window reminiscent of its predecessor. After a few years, in 1977, the 308 got a steel body, and the car underwent several necessary innovations over the years.
The 308 you see here dates from late 1980, meaning that we are dealing with a 308 with injection, hence the full model designation 308 GTBi. A reliable Bosch K-Jetronic system was supposed to ensure lower emissions. The power output was around 205 hp. The GTB, with the "B" standing for Berlinetta, is finished in red, which still remains the favourite colour for this model. However much we can appreciate other colours, red fits the 308 like a glove.
The red paint is in excellent condition, with a lot of gloss, and the Italian beauty has no damages or imperfections. So we have a car with a beautiful, clean body on this page. The alignment is neat, the doors close tightly, and the front and rear lid fall easily into place. The originally American GTB has been given a new coat of paint, but it looks very nice and original.
While the exterior is characterized by surprisingly little patina, the interior is somewhat worn. Don't get us wrong: the interior exudes a great atmosphere and still looks very fresh, but the seats do show some signs of age, although not really damaged. The upholstery is finished in the most beloved natural colour for many. The dashboard, on the other hand, has remained exceptionally neat. The characteristic gauges with sea-green pointers and yellow and orange details are typical of Ferrari from that time. Beautiful! Everything works as it should, not only the gauges and controls around the steering wheel but also the centre console, where the rare air conditioning is located. The central eye-catcher is, of course, the striking gear lever with the well-known steel Ferrari shift pattern grate. The 308 shifts smoothly and drives exactly as it should.
The fact this two-seater also drives so well is down it having been used regularly. The engine goes by the name 2.9 L Tipo F106 BB V8, quite a mouthful indeed. The eight-cylinder picks up nicely and delivers more impressive performance than you would expect based on the numbers. A true Italian sports car with a lot of temperament.
The Ferrari comes with a substantial file of invoices. A generous amount of paperwork from the last 25 years is available, indicating regular use and maintenance. It doe not get any better for a classic car.
With this Ferrari, you can own a true icon. A car that will only become more popular and also a model where keeping the car in optimal driving condition is still "doable." There is little that compares to an '80s Ferrari, and if you agree, this could be a choice made with both the heart and the mind.
