This is the Cadillac that set the mark for exclusivity and opulence that is still legendary today. For years Cadillac's motto was "The Standard of the World," and to keep that reputation in the forefront, the no-compromise 1957 Series 70 Eldorado Brougham.

At $13,074 the Eldorado Brougham was thousands more than the Lincoln Continental Mark II and even the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. For that regal sum buyers got a limited production, handcrafted automobile without peer. The four-door pillarless coupe body with "suicide" rear doors was exclusive to the Eldorado Brougham. Standard equipment included a dual four-barrel V8, four-speed automatic transmission, and the first air-spring suspension on a passenger car. Power windows, forged aluminum wheels, air conditioning, and more were standard. Inside, buyers had a choice of 44 full leather or broadcloth interior trim combinations and could select Mouton, Karakul or lambskin carpeting. Every accessory imageable, including an ounce of Arpège Extrait de Lanvin perfume, was included.

This 1957 Eldorado Brougham is offered by H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, a legend in American motorsports. You may not know Wheeler, but you've heard him: he is the voice of the 1975 Cadillac Coupe de Ville cartoon character, "Tex", in the 2006 Pixar film Cars and its 2017 sequel, Cars 3. Humpy was 11 years old when on 19 June 1949, he attended the very first NASCAR stock car race, held at the Charlotte Fairgrounds. After that he spent as much time at racetracks as possible and came to know many NASCAR pioneers. Eventually, Wheeler began promoting races at Carolina tracks such as Concord, Robinwood, and Starlight Speedways, before joining what was then Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he is known for his outrageous promotions and attention to the customer experience. Though no longer with the Speedway, at age 84 he is still involved in the sport.

His 1957 Eldorado Brougham is a well maintained example. The Code 118 Deauville Gray paint is one of 15 colors exclusive to the Eldorado Brougham, selected to highlight the stainless-steel trim. One concession to practicality is the replacement of the chronically troublesome air-spring suspension with conventional coil springs. Additionally, Humpy notes that his Eldorado has received extensive mechanical work during his ownership with rechromed bumpers and new tires. Prior to Wheeler's stewardship a California family owned it for 22 years, and the odometer shows 58,650 miles. With remarkable opulence, exclusivity, and handcrafted quality, the 1957 Eldorado Brougham is quite simply an American legend – just like H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler.
