When it first appeared, the Renault 5 Turbo had the effect of a bomb going off : performance-wise, it accelerated like a rocket when the turbo kicked in, and aesthetically, it broke all the rules. The car presented is a marvellous illustration of this. It was the second example built, with number 0002 appearing on the dashboard (the first versions were numbered). Well known in the world of enthusiasts of the model, it bears all the characteristics of the first version with its extravagant Bertone-styled interior. Although most examples were red, this one is Bleu Olympe, a stunning and rare colour.
This car spent a long time in the South of France and has recently been carefully restored. The interior was refurbished by the Selliers du Domaine, Alpine and Renault Sport specialists, and the bodywork, which was sound, has also been given careful attention. The odometer shows just under 22 000 km, which according to the owner is the original mileage. He is a discerning collector from Marseille who is passionate about rare cars and motorcycles. He recently took the R5 to the Colombo Challenge garage, a Ferrari specialist who is familiar with the model. They eliminated several small faults (invoices for over 3000 Euros). Complete with its toolbox, this Renault 5 Turbo is a piece of history. It is in superb condition and constitutes a rare opportunity for demanding collectors.
