Description

This 1968 Mustang Convertible is one of only 286 examples of the “Rainbow of Colours” series made at Ford's San Jose factory in California, USA.

These special Mustangs were commissioned by West Coast dealers to increase sales with one of the most imaginative advertising campaigns Ford ever ran in 1968. This eye-catching promotion offered the buyer a range of exclusive colours, among which was this Hot Pink of which only 40 units were produced.

This unit #147484# was ordered by Twin Falls, Idaho dealer BILL WORKMAN FORD on February 20, 1968 in its spectacular Hot Pink colour combined with a parchment interior and matching vinyl top.

Only 40 Mustangs from this promotion series were equipped with power steering, automatic transmission, electric top and 220hp 302 engine. All this information has been obtained through the certificate issued by Marti Report and included with the car.

In 2002 this car was purchased in the USA, already restored, and was imported to Barcelona (Spain) by its previous owner, who registered it as a Historic Vehicle. This Mustang was restored more than 15 years ago and is still in very good mechanical condition and in good aesthetic condition, although with some details that could be improved.

During the last few years it has been maintained by a specialist workshop for American vehicles in Barcelona (Talleres Diputación 16) and has been passing its ITV inspections without problems since then.

Its 230 hp 302 V8 engine, with a 4-bar Holley carburettor, starts easily and is in top shape, giving the expected power. The automatic change is precise and both the selector and all the gears work perfectly. The brakes are very effective thanks to the brake booster that it has and the braking is precise and without drift. Both the steering and the suspension were restored and allow safe and precise driving. The power steering is smooth with no jerking or rattling and no leaks. The exhaust line is in good condition and its muffler allows you to hear the exciting noise of its powerful V8.

All the dashboard controls work correctly and the dashboard parts have been restored with original spare parts. The upholstery is in excellent condition and in its original colour. The electro-hydraulic soft top works quickly and without fail. The closure of the hooks is simple and solid. The vinyl on the hood is perfect and has the folding rear window, an interesting option in this version. The trunk has its spare wheel and jack with a key.

The chrome on the bumpers shine and hardly show signs of wear, as do the side moldings, windshields and emblems. It hosts the original radio hubcaps which, though they have signs of use, they are in a decent condition.

The car's paint respects the original Hot Pink colour and has a suitable shine and presence. It has some slight chipping. The quality is sufficiently good for a fun and usable car, although it does not meet the standard of a recently restored car. No dents or rust can be seen on the chassis-body, both the floors of the passenger compartment and the underbody have been restored and are in perfect condition. There are some small rust marks in the corner of the driver's door, easily repaired by a professional.
