The Lamborghini Murcielago was the Italian automaker’s follow-up to the famed Diablo as well as being the first new design in eleven years and the first new model built under VW ownership. It was first introduced in 2001 as a coupe, with a roadster variant following shortly in 2003. March 2006 saw the unveiling of an updated version of the Murcielago dubbed the LP 640, with LP defining the engine’s orientation (Longitudinale Posteriore), and the updated power rating of 640 PS or 631 hp. The exterior received a facelift with side air intakes, a new exhaust system built into the rear diffuser, a modified suspension, revised programming, and an upgraded clutch for the 6-speed “e-Gear” automated manual transmission with launch control. The interior received more headroom and a new stereo system.
A total of 4,099 examples were ever built, with most of them being Coupes.
This particular example of an LP 640 Coupe, Chassis # ZHWBU37S57LA02268, shows just over 4,000 miles on the odometer. It was sold in Colorado in December of 2006 with a Blu Hera Metallic paint job over a tri-tone blue and white with red stitching interior. The car was optioned with carbon ceramic brakes and a full carbon package on the interior including door sills and engine bay. Rounding out the inuterior is the diamond stitching on the leather that perfectly complements the diamond stitching on the Alcantara headliner.
The first owner listed this Murcielago for sale in July of 2015 at North Freeway Hyundai in Houston, TX. It sold in December of that same year to someone in Indiana with just 2,223 miles on the odometer. The second owner held on to it for the next two years, with service records reported at Mikar Inc. in Carmel, IN. It was listed for sale in July of 2017 and again in August of 2019 when it sold to its third owner in Michigan.
Under its third and current owner, the Murcielago received a major service totaling almost $7,000 in September of 2019 and one totaling almost $1,000 the following month. In January of 2020, Finishing Touch Auto Spa in Waterford, MI performed a full paint correction before applying a full-body Xpel Platinum PPF and Ceramic Pro coating, with double PPF on the lower rocker panels for increased rock chip protection. The wheels and calipers were also treated to double layers of the same Ceramic Pro coating. The car later received new Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico tires all around in April of the same year.
As it sits, this gorgeous Italian bat is a stunning example of the more powerful Murcielago variant. Those who grew up on early 2000s racing video games like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and Hot Pursuit 2 will find their inner child screaming with glee as their outer adult rips the V12 through mountain twisties. This low-mileage example is the perfect way to experience one of the cars that made Lamborghini one of the most popular supercar makers of the new Millenium.
Upon purchase, the new owner will receive the clean CARFAX report as well as all of the available service records on file.
