Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 IE Type 4
An Alfa Romeo Spider full of charisma, finesse and history. Literally, because we know every tiny detail about this 2.0 Type 4 version. For example, the car has been originally Dutch delivered and perfectly maintained through the years. The overall condition appears to be very solid and the character is on a unique level. Furthermore, the classic Spider has a number of extras that make the Alfisti very greedy: among other things, a wooden MOMO steering wheel, Quartz timepiece, hardtop and electric windows are included. And above all: the color is 100% Alfa, Rosso Alfa.
History
We have to go all the way back to 1966 for the original Alfa Spider, on which this Type 4 is based on. The handsome roadster succeeded the Giulia and Giulietta Spider. Parts like the round headlights, slim silhouette and several chrome details were taken over. After the Duetto (series 1), Coda Tronca (series 2) and Aerodinamica (series 3), Type 4 was introduced in 1990. At Prins, we have the more powerful 2.0 IE version including the electronic injection system from Bosch.
Exterior
Unlike previous Alfa Romeo Spiders, this Type 4 is equipped with body-coloured bumpers. Fortunately, we can say. Because the fiery red Rosso Alfa shade is in itself a reason to feel lots of passion around our Italian beauty. The rear light units are larger than on the previous 3 series, but fitting the bodywork perfectly thanks to the red light bar connecting both units. Larger bumpers and exterior mirrors give the Alfa Spider Type 4 a more modern look. However, it doesn’t make it any less timeless. The black soft-top contrasts nice with the chrome window frame. Yet we prefer to see the roof disappear behind the 2 seats as much as possible. Convertible lovers understand why…
Interior
With the soft-top down, the Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 allows spectators to take a look at the lovely, beige leather interior. What a smooth machine! Driver and passenger can’t take their eyes off the characteristic Quartz timepiece, Pioneer radio system and of course the wooden MOMO steering wheel. Talking about class on wheels… The electrically adjustable windows are very luxurious for a classic. After all, pure style should be comfortable more often. The minimalistic dashboard has everything you need and the wide tunnel console reminds us of another famous Italian (sports) car brand.
Technique
In terms of driving experience, the Alfa Spider 2.0 IE is indeed on a higher level. Or better: in a class of its own. The 4-cylinder Twin Cam engine produces 126 hp plus the biggest smile on your face. With rear-wheel drive and limited car weight, the next hairpin is waiting for you as soon as you drive your dream to – or under the sun. Now get that ticket to Holland first.
Cordiali Saluti, Prins Classics.
