Description

Purchased in 2002, this 1951 Hudson Hornet was carefully restored by the consignor, master automotive machinist and engine builder Dave Bonbright in conjunction with the development of Disney•Pixar’s animated feature film Cars (2006). In contrast to the stock appearance of the Hornet’s desirable Twin H-Power engine and interior, which has been reupholstered in the original style and fabric, this real-life Doc Hudson features an eye-catching livery and shiny, stock chrome, which mirrors its animated counterpart. Combining the “Fabulous” moniker used by Hudson’s factory-sponsored stock car racing team of the early 1950s with details from Doc’s cinematic backstory as a three-time Piston Cup Champion, each element of Doc’s exterior has been meticulously hand-painted over a base of Pacific Blue.

Utilized as a promotional vehicle for the original Cars film, as well as subsequent films in the franchise, this Doc Hudson has attended numerous Disney•Pixar Cars film premieres and events and is featured on Jay Leno’s Garage on YouTube, with more than 2.1 million views to date. Doc remains indelibly linked to the legendary actor and race car driver, Paul Newman, who offered both his voice and racing expertise to the enhancement of the animated character. A portion of the consignor’s sale proceeds will support SeriousFun Children’s Network, founded by Paul Newman, a network of 30 camps and programs around the world dedicated to transforming the lives of children with serious illnesses and their families through inclusive recreational experiences that foster joy, inspire confidence, and create connection.
