Description

1963 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8-Litre Sports Saloon

"One of the most impressive sights today is the rapid and purposeful progress of a Mark 2 Jaguar on a motorway, eating up the miles in the fast lane. Like the nose of a bullet, the rounded frontal shape looks right for high speed, and the sheer velocity attained is usually exhilarating." - Autocar.

Still carrying its original Birmingham registration, '912 JOB', this example of Jaguar's perennially popular Mark 2 saloon is offered fresh from a total 'last nut and bolt' restoration undertaken to the highest of standards by two highly-skilled retired motor engineers at a cost of approximately £50,000 in parts alone. To have work of this standard professionally done today could easily cost around £200,000...

The car was stripped to a bare shell before being acid-dipped and phosphate-coated, while all components were reconditioned or replaced as required. Every aspect of the refurbishment was considered carefully with the aim of creating a desirable and stylish Mark 2 that functioned correctly and was enjoyable to drive. To these ends the car has been fitted with an S-Type 3.8-litre engine, which is coupled to a later all-synchromesh gearbox with overdrive, bringing this Mark 2 up to that model's ultimate specification. The car has been refinished in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey while the interior has been re-trimmed in Blood Red hide to concours standard, boasting immaculate wood veneers, a new headlining and its original Radiomobile push-button radio. Further enhancing the car's appearance is a set of MWS stainless wire wheels shod with Pirelli tyres, which neatly fill the Coombs-style rear wheelarches. Completing the picture is a complete tool kit correctly located in the spare wheel well, with all other tools positioned on the rear bulkhead as they should be.

Minor alterations from factory specification include the relocation of the battery from the engine bay to the boot, and the adoption of power assisted steering, alternator electrics, and LED lighting - all upgrades guaranteed to enhance the driving experience. Given the rebuild's relatively recent completion, the car will require careful running in before unrestrained use. A wonderful opportunity to own what must be one of the best Mark 2s currently available.
