The MGA was built from September 1955 to September 1962.
A total of 101,081 were built in that period. However, a prototype (EX175, registration HM06) with TD mechanics was shown in 1952 to the then head of BMC, Leonard Lord. This prototype was largely based on a UMG400, a TD special raced by George Philips in 1951 during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Lord, however, rejected further developments because he had recently chosen to start building the Austin-Healey 100. This decision led to the modernisation of the TD, the development of the TF.
But finally the time had come, three MGAs (aluminium prototypes, EX182) drove at Le Mans in 1955 and the first productions MGAs appeared a little later in that year. With its low line and streamlined body, the MGA was very different from its predecessors with their traditional square radiators, separate mudguards, headlights and square fuel tank with spare wheel on the back. The MGA, as it appeared in 1955, was a two-seater roadster with a 1489 cc (XPEG series) engine and a four-speed gearbox. With 72 HP at 5500 rpm, the top speed was just under 160 km/h. Drum brakes were fitted all around, the car was delivered on steel disc wheels as standard.
This MG A 1500 Roadster on offer was built in 1959. It has the rare colour Sea Green with a black leather interior, white piping and a black carpet. Black soft-top with side windows. This beautiful 'A' from the 1500 series was sold new in the USA. The car was imported in the Netherlands in 1990. It was then restored. The paintwork and bodywork are in good condition since the restoration. The condition of the paintwork shows it is an older restoration. The sills, mudguards, doors, bonnet, boot lid and grille have a good fit.
The car has been carefully maintained since the restoration. This beautiful MG is in very good condition and the car drives perfectly! The Roadster looks great and the engine bay has nice details. The car is equipped with chrome wire wheels, chrome wheel nuts and Michelin tyres. This MG has an easy to set up soft-top with side windows.
Nice daily driver with some cosmetic imperfections to the paintwork as can be seen in the detailed photos.
This amazing 'MG A Roadster' is ready to be enjoyed.
