Amphicar - The sports car that goes!
Launched at the New York Auto Show in 1961, the Amphicar Model 770 was an amphibious car, manufactured in West Germany and marketed from 1961 to 1968.
It was powered by a 1,147cc Triumph engine that allowed it to reach 125 km/h on the road and 8 knots on the water.
It was a car that was primarily aimed at the US market with a style specific to that market and the style of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
3878 units were produced and 99 left-hand drive Amphicars were converted to right-hand drive cars.
Amphicars were also used by the Berlin police and others were equipped for rescue operations.
The example we present was purchased in 2011 by its current owner. The car still has its original paintwork, which does not prevent it from being perfectly watertight and free of corrosion, thanks to a change of all the seals. The car works perfectly on the road as well as on the water. Also note that a new soft top has been fitted to this Amphicar, in case of a storm!
