After the Second World War, the coachbuilder Chapron suffers, orders for special bodies for Bugatti, Delage or Delahaye are no longer on the agenda.
The arrival of the DS is therefore a godsend for the coachbuilder, who can once again practice his art on a car that fits. In addition to its technical qualities and exceptional comfort, it had the prestige and status expected of a traditional coachbuilder.
From 1958 onwards, Henri Chapron offered his convertibles and coupes, which he named according to the version: Croisette, Concorde, Caddy, Palm Beach or Le Dandy. The DS's that go through Chapon have a more meticulous finish than the standard DS, based on chrome strips and bezels, richer hubcaps, and lower body panels, while the interior receives specific seats. And all this for only twice the price of a classic DS. With its low windscreen, this coupé looks good and its high luxury finish gives it the distinction that is due to a coachbuilder's car. Less than 50 Le Dandy coupes were produced between 1960 and 1968.
The car on offer is a reconstruction of the famous dandy made by Chapron in the 19 version, it has been very well made and its lines are superb. Its cream paint, black vinyl roof and interior are in very good condition. The driver's compartment and its 100 percent Jaeger instrumentation are beautiful and invite to travel.
